Ondansetron (2mg) is a potent serotonin (5-HT3) receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the signals of serotonin both in the gastrointestinal tract and in the "Vomiting Center" of the brain (Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone), effectively shutting down the urge to vomit.
In pediatric cases of gastroenteritis, the biggest risk is fluid loss. By stopping emesis (vomiting) within 15–30 minutes, Stemnil Drops allows the child to tolerate water, ORS, and breast milk, often preventing the need for painful IV fluids or hospitalization.
